PATNA: A youth today threw a slipper at Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar at a public interaction programme irked at a government’s advisory preventing “havans” (fire rituals in Hindu worships) after 9 am.
Authorities said the chief minister was meeting visitors at his Junta Durbar when the youth removed his slipper and threw at him, leaving its marks on Kumar’s kurta.

Instantly, the police deployed in his security came into action and took him into custody. The youth was angry at ‘havans’ getting banned by the state government after 9 am in view of sudden increase in incidents of fire outbreaks across the state this summer.
“See, the dirty mark of his ‘chappal’ (slipper) is still present on my kurta,” Kumar told the media persons showing its marks.
“He was asking like why I am against the Hindus?” Kumar quoted the youth having asked shortly after throwing his slipper at him.
Unfazed by such incident, the chief minister said he had not come here to do ‘naukari’ (service) but had been given the mandate for pro-active governance.
“And, I will continue doing this come what may. Why only chappal and stones? People are free to even open fire at me but they should know I am not scared of such things and will continue working for the state,” Kumar asserted.
