Woman delivers babies on the street as Bihar hospital refuses to admit


PATNA: A woman delivered babies on the street as the doctors at the government hospital in Bihar refused to admit the woman despite her repeated requests, media reports said on Wednesday.

The shocking incident took place in the premises of Raniganj referral hospital in Araria district of eastern Bihar, sending shock waves in the areas.

As per the report, the woman had been rushed to the hospital on Wednesday morning after her labour pain started.

However, the nurses on duty refused to admit the woman and instead advised her attendants to shift her to the private hospital.

Even as the family members were taking the woman to other hospital, her labour pain picked up after which the local women created a makeshift room by hanging a sari around her and conducted her delivery, witnesses said.

Reports said the woman delivered three babies at a time and all are reported safe.

The local civil surgeon condemned the negligence on the part of the health staffs and announced to initiate action against them.

Hospitals in India have been infamous for negligent acts on the part the health officials. Earlier this week, a doctor in Jharkhand prescribed pregnancy tests to two youths who had consulted him for stomach pain.
