PATNA: A ruling party legislator from Bihar, Narendra Kumar Neeraj has threatened to chop off tongue if anyone dared to intimidate his supporters. Neeraj, more popular as Gopal Mandal who represents Gopalpur seat (Bhagalpur district) in the state assembly, was elected on Janata dal United (JD-U) ticket during the recent assembly elections.
“It won’t take me even a minute to slit tongue if anyone dared to insult my workers and supporters,” the legislator was quoted as saying in a local vernacular daily today.
“I have been shuttling between jail and home. I am first a Gopal Mandal, then an MLA,” he added. He reportedly made these remarks at a sports’ function held under his constituency on Sunday.
He said he did not care about his government, what he only cares about is his supporters. “Those who insult me or my supporters have no right to stay alive,” he declared.
Mandal is the fourth such legislator from the ruling Grand Alliance in Bihar to have come in the news for all the wrong reasons after the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress colleagues.
The Nitish Kumar government already faces major embarrassment in view of rape charges leveled against a RJD legislator Raj Ballabh Yadav. Only yesterday, the police confiscated the property of the legislator after he failed to surrender. Yadav who was elected from Nawada seat has been on the run since the rape case was lodged against him on February 9. The RJD has suspended the fugitive lawmaker for his misconduct.
Likewise, a JD-U legislator Sarfaraz Alam, son of a mighty politician and RJD MP Mohammad Taslimuddin, has been accused of molesting a couple on a running premier train. Alam who represents Jokihat seat in the state assembly too has been suspended from the JD-U for his gross misconduct.
Another person identified as son of a RJD legislator Kunti Devi was recently arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting a doctor on duty at a health centre in Gaya district while a Congress legislator has been accused of kidnapping a college girl.
