Village court orders rapist be beaten with shoes, also slaps fine of Rs5 lakh
PATNA: A village court in Bihar ordered a rapist to be beaten with shoes and also imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 after he was accused of raping a minor girl.
The horrible incident took place at Raghopur village in Supaul district on Friday.
According to reports in the local media, a 55-year-old man identified as Ganesh Swarnkar lured an 11-year-old girl on the pretext of handing over firewood and allegedly raped in the backyard of his house.
After the incident came to light, the local villagers held a court at the village and issued orders for beating the accused with shoes 11 times and also imposed a penalty of Rs500,000 on him. However, the alleged rapist refused to obey the court’s order.
The victim has now registered a case with the local Raghopur police station seeking action against the accused.
“We have registered the case under Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act and further investigation is on,” a local senior police official Nagendra Kumar told the media on Sunday.
