Bihar merit scam: Under fire BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar resigns, may be arrested

PATNA: Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad who came under fire for his role in the Bihar merit scam has resigned today, according to media reports.

As per media reports, the BSEB chairman resigned from his post today after the government served a notice on him asking why he should not be dismissed within 24 hours.

Reports are that he may be arrested soon.

Education minister Ashok Chaudhary confirmed the government had sent such notice.

The government issued the notice after it became clear that Prasad had allegedly helped the education mafias.

It is widely alleged it was on his instruction that the exam centre of the Vishun Rai College, Vaishali,  the college in the eye of storms, had been made at GA High School, Vaishali and the answer books of the students were examined at Boys High School, Rajendra Nagar, Patna

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the Bihar Board class 12 merit scam in the meanwhile arrested four persons including the principals of GA High School, Vaishali and Boys High School, Rajendra Nagar, Patna Shail Kumari and Vishweshwar Yadav respectively today. All are beig interrogated at a secret place.

The police are now conducting raids to nab the absconding principal of VR College Amit Kumar alias Bachcha Rai who has gone into hiding.

Most of the toppers too have gone into hiding, police said.

Reports said the police did not find most of the class 12 toppers when they reached their homes with the notices asking them to appear before the police for interrogation.

In their absence, the police handed over the notices to either their family members or pasted on the walls of their house.

The arrests come a day after the SIT conducted raids at the BSEB office and seized all the hard discs, laptops, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets from the office.
