Chennai: Several members of AIADMK in Tamil Nadu have said they want the party’s new chief Sasikala Natarajan to take over the chief minister of the state, according to media sources.
Sasikala Natarajan, close aide of Tamil Nadu’s late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, formally took over the reins of the party on Dec 31.

M Thambidurai, member of Lok Sabha from Tamil Nadu, has said that he would like to see Sasikala taking over as the head of government too, media reported.
NDTV quoted Thambidurai as saying, “Governments have lost their credibility among the people, when the leadership of the party and the leadership of the government was in the hands of two different persons,” and therefore it’s unwise for the party and government to have separate power centres.
During Jayalalithaa’s extended hospitalisation O Panneerselvam was appointed the chief minister to ensure smooth operation of the government and he has continued in the role since then.
Panneerselvam had stood in for her twice earlier when she was arrested on charges of corruption.
Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister Udayakumar too has launched a campaign asking for Chinnamma Sasikala Natarajan to become chief minister, NDTV reported.
