Teenager burnt to death after rape in Bihar, accused jailed

PATNA: A 18-year-old girl was burnt to death after being allegedly raped in Bihar. The police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
The incident took place in Kahalgaon sub-division of Bhagalpur district on Wednesday.
As per reports, the victim was alone in her house on the fateful day when the accused, a cousin of her sister’s husband, overpowered her and allegedly raped in her home.
When she offered resistance, the accused set her on fire.
Soon after hearing her cries, the local villagers rushed to the spot and caught the accused while the victim was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her burn injuries on Thursday morning.
“The accused has been arrested and sent to jail,” the local Bhagalpur district superintendent of police Ashish Bharti told the media on Friday.
According to the police official, initially the police had registered a rape case against the accused but now other necessary sections of the Indian Penal Code are also being applied post girl’s death.
Order has also been issued for early completion of investigation to ensure speedy trial in the case.
