Sudden spurt in lightning strikes alarms Bihar administration
LIGHTNING STRIKES CLAIM AT LEAST 33 LIVES DURING THE PAST 24 HOURS IN BIHAR
PATNA: At least 33 people, quite many of them women and children, were killed in lightning strike in Bihar during the past 24 hours.
A majority of 17 deaths from lightning strikes have been reported from eastern Bihar, media reports said on Wednesday.
Another 10 deaths were reported from Auranagabad and Rohtas dipsticks in south-central Bihar. The remaining casualties were reported from other parts of the state.
Authorities are alarmed at sudden spurt in lightning cases in Bihar, claiming several lives at regular intervals.
Alarmed officials are frequently giving advertisements in local news papers detailing do’s and don’ts during the time of heavy rains.
The state government has ordered a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each victim family.
Last week, eight children had been killed in lightning strikes in Nawada district.
