Story of coalition politics: Now, trouble shifts to NDA camp in Bihar as Manjhi ‘revolts’
PATNA: Alliance politics has turned quite interesting turn in Bihar.
Even as the ruling grand alliance battles hard to overcome the crisis which erupted after chief minister Nitish Kumar’s support to NDA’s presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind, trouble has now shifted to the NDA camp.
Ina fresh twist in Bihar politics, one of the NDA allies Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) has strongly protested the BJP’s move to “sideline” party chief Jitan Ram Manjhi.
“Manjhiji is getting constantly sidelined within the NDA. We can’t tolerate it anymore,” a senior HAM leader Mahachandra Prasad Singh has told the local media.
He added the senior party leadership should take note of his allies and give due respect to them.
Reports said Manjhi is angry over the BJP’s failure to fulfill the “commitment” made to him at the time of his induction into the NDA.
A former CM, Manjhi had joined the NDA just ahead of the last 2015 assembly polls after ditching his mentor Nitish Kumar
As per the story doing the rounds in media circles, a gubernatorial post had been promised to Manjhi and a key post to his son in lieu of his support to the NDA but both these promises remain unfulfilled till date.
Meanwhile, Manjhi has gone overactive these days after finding the post of governor lying vacant in Bihar. The post fell vacant last week after the BJP named governor Ram Nath Kovind as its presidential candidate.
The BJP, reports said, has not been taking him seriously after the NDA performed miserably in the last assembly polls, winning just 58 seats out of 243 it had contested.
The HAM too failed to leave its mark with none of the 24-odd party leaders except Mr Manjhi winning the elections which had become a prestige issue between chief minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Modi.
Another BJP ally, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) headed by union minister Upendra Kushwaha too is said to be annoyed with the kind of treatment being meted out by the BJP.
The RLSPp is angry at the way the BJP leadership rolled out red carpet to lure JD-U leader Kumar to the NDA recently during the bitter fighting between the JD-U and the RJD. The RLSP has announced to quit the NDA in the event of Mr Kumar returning to his old ally.
The Lok Janshkti Party (LJP), another BJP partner headed by union minister Ram Vilas Paswan too is not happy over the BJP’s eagerness to befriend Bihar chief minister, reports said.
Although Paswan welcomed the chief minister to the NDA, he also subtly warned him against sailing on two boats at a time.
“Those sailing on two boats are bound to sink. He should rather choose NDA boat,” Paswan has gone on record said.
