Alarmed at the growing number of suicides, the Kota Hostel Association has now planned to install such ceiling fans in the students’ hostels, replacing the old ones.

A significant feature of the newly-designed fan is that it will come down once anyone over 20 kg tries to hang himself from the fan which will also raise an alarm.

The idea has been planned given the fact around 80 percent of suicides was related to hanging from ceiling fans.

“The association has decided to make it mandatory for every student hostel registered with the association to attach a secret spring equipment and siren sensor to the ceiling fans of the hostel rooms,” President of Kota Hostel Association Naveen Mittal was quoted as telling news agency PTI today.
