Shocked at being called ‘bad-chalan’, Bihar Dalit girl commits suicide by hanging


PATNA: A college girl committed suicide distressed at being dubbed as “bad-chalan” (of bad character).

The shocking incident took place at Lachhu Toal village in Bhojpur, a central Bihar district located some 160 km west of Patna.

Reports said victim baby Kumari, studying in Class XII, had gone out to meet nature call on Thursday evening when some seven youths allegedly sexually harassed her as she returned home crying.

On return, she informed her parents about the incidents after which the local villagers decided to hold a ‘panchayat’ over the issue, the very next morning, ie on Friday.

All youths accused of harassing her too were called in at the meet. Reports said the accused termed the dubbed the girl as “bad-chalan” at the meet as someone conveyed her about the allegations leveled against her.

Shocked at the allegation, the victim committed suicide by hanging from roof even as the meeting was still in progress. The victim was daughter of Bijadhar Ram.
