“I am innocent and have been framed…have full faith in the judiciary,” he told newsmen in the court.

The MLA had been evading arrests since February 9 last when a case of rape was registered against him for raping a minor girl at his residence.

The surrender comes after the local district court had denied bail to the accused and the local administration put enough pressures on him by cancelling his arms licences, mining licences and attaching his properties. In addition to this, the administration was also planning to auction his properties. Apparently the continued police pressures forced him to surrender before the court of law.

The lawmaker shot to infamy after a minor girl charged him with raping her at his residence.

As per reports, a middle-aged woman identified as Sulekha Devi lured her on the pretext of attending a birthday party in the locality on February 6 but handed her to the lawmaker. According to the victim, she smelt rat when the woman reached the house with her, and tried to escape but was caught by the guards in security of the accused and locked in a room.

Soon after the incident, she reported the matter to her parents who registered a case with the police. It was during the case of investigation that the police showed her some photographs of the suspects and she identified the accused.
