Reports said the shepherds were carrying their sheep through the railway bridge when the Saharsa-Jaynagar Janaki Express suddenly came on the track, running over the domesticated ruminant mammals.
The incident left the tracks littered with the amputated body parts of the sheep, virtually turning the track red.
Soon after the incident, the shepherds fled the scene, apprehending legal action by the police.
