PATNA: In a bizarre incident, a woman declared dead long back has been elected as panchayat samiti member in the just-held local bodies polls in Bihar. The local administration has ordered a probe into the mater.
As per reports, the woman identified as Mithlesh Devi was allegedly murdered by her husband Sikandar Mukhiya nine years ago in Sitamarhi district.
However, available documents say she was elected as a panchayat samiti member from Tikauli panchayat in Sitamarhi district.
Reports said Sikandar who is currently on the run fielded his second wife Gudia Devi in the name of his first wife Mithlesh Devi, to contest the panchayat polls
“Sikandar, who is accused in her murder, put his second wife to contest in the name of Mithlesh to ensure that she poses as his first wife in the court to help him get acquitted in the case,” said IANS quoting an official.
