Presidential polls: BJP’s masterstroke leaves Bihar’s grand alliance in a tricky situation


PATNA: The declaration of Bihar governor Ram Nath Kovind as NDA’s presidential candidate has left the ruling alliance in a really tricky situation.

In the sense that the NDA’s nominee not only is a Governor from Bihar but is also from a dalit caste for whose rights they all claim to fighting for.

Also, during his tenure as Bihar Governor, Kovin has never been involved in any controversy and holds very good rapport with the chief minister Kumar.

Meanwhile former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi today congratulated Kovind on his being declared as the NDA’s presidential nominee.

“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for declaring a Dalit as the Presidential candidate. This was also the demand of my party,” Manjhi who heads Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) told the media on Monday. HAM is an ally of the BJP.

Manjhi also appealed to JD-U leader and chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad to back the nominee for their “dalit-centric” politics.

RJD said it will decide over the issue at a meeting of opposition to be held in next few days.

JDU spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan also made similar statement saying “the party will discuss the issue at its own forum”.
