PATNA: A powerful storm accompanied with rains and hails hit the north-eastern region of Bihar early Saturday, killing six people and damaging many homes.
Authorities said most of the victims died due to lightening. They included two youngsters aged 11 and 12 in Baisa block of Muslim-dominated Purnia district.

The storm which lashed early morning also destroyed standing crops in the field in the bordering districts, such as Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Madhepura, Supaul, Sheohar and Samstipur.
As many as 18 districts are said to be affected by storms which left behind a trail of destruction.
Reports said hundreds of houses were damaged and its roofs blown away by the powerful storms.
Disaster Management Department (DMD) authorizes are assessing the extent of crop damage and are rushing relief to the affected families.
