Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s cousin and party parliamentarian Ram Gopal Yadav was today expelled from the party for six years hours after he had written an open letter to his supporters in the day.

“Ram Gopal expelled from the Samajwadi Party and general Secy position for six years,” UP state party president Shivpal Singh Yadav was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The news agency further quoted Shivpal as saying “He is involved with corrupt ppl, Ram Gopal has always misused name of Netaji; had raised this issue at various party forums”.

Shivpal further alleged “Ram Gopal betrayed us to save his son and daughter-in-law from a CBI case, he tried to tarnish party’s image”.

The development came hours after Ram Gopal shot off a letter to his colleagues saying the future of the party lay with incumbent chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

In the letter addressed to his fellow party workers, he stated that he wants the state government to be formed under the leadership of his nephew Akhilesh.

The party last week cleared all rumours and said Akhilesh will be the chief ministerial candidate of the party in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections.

In another significant move, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav today dismissed four ministers from his cabinet, including his uncle Shivpal Yadav.

Shivpal is considered close to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, father of UP chief minister.

Soon after being sacked, Shivpal returned his official beacon-fitted car.

The chief minister sacked the ministers shortly after he held a meeting with party lawmakers today.

The development indicates how the power tussle within the family has turned bitter badly threatening the party prospects in the upcoming assembly polls scheduled early next year.

“This is the party formed and nurtured by Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) and I am his natural heir,” Akhilesh was quoted as saying in the local media.

He also termed party parliamentarian Amar Singh as a “dalal” (broker) charging him with causing disturbances in the party.

“All those close to Amar Singh will be sternly dealt with,” Akhilesh reportedly added.
