PM rejects Nitish Kumar’s demand for granting central varsity status to Patna University

PATNA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today rejected Bihar chief minister NItish Kumar’s demand for granting central university status to Patna University which experts say is a yet another embarrassment to the JD-U which returned to the BJP camp only two months back.

The chief minister had made this demand while addressing the centenary celebrations of the Patna University on Saturday.

“I humbly request the Prime Minister to grant this status to the university,” the chief minister who was an alumnus of the university appealed in the presence of many ministers, MPs, legislators, teachers and students.

The PM, however, looked the other way in his speech. “The very demand is now a thing of the past,” the PM said addressing the function as the chief guest.

Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav took potshot at the chief minister for getting his demand rejected at the hand of the Prime Minister and added how the PM showed Nitish Kumar his actual place.

“Today Bihar’s backstabber CM begged in front of his new almighty to provide many things as face saver to console angry people of Bihar after dacoity of mandate but PM outrightly rejected all demands of him. I felt bad for Nitish Chacha,” Tejashwi tweeted.

He added, “Forget about Bihar Special Package or Special Status even after abducting mandate of Bihar, PM didn’t listen to CM Nitish’s demand of making Patna University a Central University. PM showing Nitish Ji his actual place & status”.
