Panic in JD-U camp as BJP ‘plans’ to project its own CM candidate for Bihar
DEMAND FOR LEADERSHIP CHANGE IN THE STATE HAS SUDDENLY GAINED MOMENTUM IN RECENT DAYS
PATNA: Will the BJP project its own CM candidate for Bihar in the next assembly elections?
The million-dollar question is being keenly debated in the media, political circles and among the general masses with the BJP leaders and workers demanding for leadership change in Bihar at frequent intervals.
Nitish Kumar has been on the throne of Bihar for the past 15 years but the BJP people don’t look satisfied with him and have been demanding for replacing him with someone from the BJP.
The debate about the leadership change started early this week after a section of BJP leaders sought for projecting Union minister Giriraj Singh as the NDA’s chief ministerial candidate for next Bihar polls and urged the central leadership to seriously look into their demand.
Hardly had the matter settled when a senior BJP leader and former union minister Sanjay Paswan suggested the chief minister to vacate the throne and himself shift to the national politics.
What was more interesting was his taunt that now the masses cast their votes in the name of Narendra Modi, and not Nitish Kumar.
Was Nitish aware of such developments?
So, was the chief minister aware of such debates going on within the BJP? The answer obviously comes in the affirmative if the recent developments outside the JD-U office were any indication.
“Recently, the JD-U put up two big hoardings outside the party office in Patna with two important slogans written over them—“Kyun karen vichar, thike to hai Nitish Kumar (why to discuss, Nitish Kumar is doing almost good)” and “Kyun Karen vichar, jab hai hi Nitish Kumar (Why to discuss when Nitsih Kumar is already there)? The slogans are self-explanatory,” commented a political expert.
Initially, many thought the JD-U’s message was directed towards the opposition, especially the RJD which has launched a campaign against Kumar but now it becomes amply clear it was for the BJP, according to political experts.
Why BJP wants to replace Nitish in Bihar
But why the BJP wants change of leadership in the state when it has come to power in Bihar just because of the support of the chief minister? As such, the BJP had badly lost the 2015 assembly elections despite intensive campaigns by PM Modi.
The BJP, informed sources said, is of the opinion that the NDA made a clean sweep in just-held LS polls in Bihar only because of popularity of Modi among the masses.
“The Modi wave was such that even the chief minister sought votes in the name of Modi and the performance of his government. If the chief minister himself seeks votes in the name of Modi what’s the point then in allowing him to continue as the chief minister further?” asked a BJP leader wishing jot to be named.
The BJP has also serious objections over the way the JD-U has continued opposing BJP’s steps, such abrogation of Section 370, banning Triple Talaq and bringing National Register of Citizens in Assam, despite being in the NDA.
