Panic in Bihar as criminals kill police official; six wounded in bomb blast in district court

PATNA: Armed criminals shot dead a police official in Bihar in broad daylight while in another incident, six persons were wound in a bomb blast in a local court, raising big question marks over the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

Reports said victim Suresh Kumar Thakur was going to Barh from Maranchi police station on his bike when some motorcycle-borne criminals shot him dead and also snatched his service revolver.

The victim, 50, who belonged to Begusarai district, was posted as station house officer with the Maranchi police station. The reason behind his murder is not known.

The police have recovered his body and begun investigation in the case.

In another incident, some six persons were wounded in a bomb blast in Chapra civil court premises early today. One of the victims included Khusaboo Kumari who was allegedly carrying the bomb reportedly to target some witnesses in a case, according to the police.

The condition of the victim is stated to be critical and has been referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Last week, criminals had killed an under-trial prisoner in the Muzaffarpur district court premises while he was being brought to be produced in the court in a murder case.

The Patna High Court while expressing serious concern over such incidents has asked the state government to beef up security arrangements in all civil courts, as per media reports.
