PATNA: Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has predicted a massive change in Bihar political scenario in the event of the BJP forming the next government in neighouring Uttar Pradesh.
The counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh where the polling was held in seven phases will be held tomorrow. Most exit polls have predicted a clear edge for the BJP in UP.
“If the BJP loses elections in UP, RJD chief Lalu Prasad may remove Nitish Kumar to hand over the throne to his son Tejashwi Yadav,” Manjhi who heads the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) was quoted as saying in a local media today. Tejashwi is deputy chief minister in the Nitish Kumar government.
“But, in case the BJP wins, chief minister Nitish Kumar may break friendship with Lalu Prasad and continue as CM with the support of the BJP. He may also join the national politics,” Manjhi predicted.
Many observers too have questioned Kumar’s move not to contest the UP elections midway through the poll campaign after focusing his party campaign for over six months.
While Kumar’s party claims it withdrew from the poll scene to prevent split in “secular” votes, the party interestingly removed the UP unit president Suresh Niranjan Bhaiyya for supporting SP-Congress alliance, contradicting its own stand. The party leadership also dissolved all units of the JD-U in UP all of a sudden.
