PATNA: The ongoing police investigation into Bihar journalist Rajdeo Ranjan murder case has brought to light some startling revelations.
One such revelation which came to light during the course of inquiry was that the arrested main shooter Rohit Kumar wanted to be widely known as “Don” and , and hence he decided to shoot the victim even after getting a petty sum as low as Rs 15,000.

“During the course of investigation, we came to understand that Rohit wanted to do anything to get wide publicity as a ‘Don’. Perhaps, that was the reason he himself had taken upon the task to kill Ranjan and eventually shot him dead…His accomplices only acted as liners,” a police official associated with the investigation revealed.
Police also apprehend jailed RJD strongman Mohamamd Shahabuddin could be his “role model” the way the latter is infamous in the areas as the “Don of Siwan”.
According to the police, the shooter pumped five bullets into the victim’s body. “After pumping four bullets into different parts of Ranjan’s body, he finally placed his pistol on the middle of his forehead and shot him dead. This indicates the brutality of his crime,” said a police officer.
The main shooter along with his four accomplices was arrested in a major swoop in Siwan on early Wednesday.
According to the confession of the shooter, he was hired one Laddan Miyan for Rs 15,000 to kill the victim and the conspiracy for this killing was planned in the first week of this month.
The police yesterday claimed having solved the murder mystery of Ranjan by arresting five criminals but are still to find out who is the real “conspirator”.
A report in the local Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar today said Laddan had been ordered by “Saheb” (boss) to eliminate Ranjan and the murder conspiracy was hatched in Siwan jail itself.
“Saheb ka aadesh hai, patrakar Rajdeo ki hatya karani hai (I have been ordered by Saheb to kill the journalist),” the paper mentions Laddan Miyan having messaged this text on the mobile of one Upendra Singh, a criminal, quoting a senior police official.
“The mobile call details of Laddan are enough to prove the fact that he was constantly in touch with jail. However, it remains a matter of investigation as to who was the person in jail with whom he was in touch and who was his Saheb,” adds the paper quoting the police official.
A joint team of police and Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested the criminals yesterday and also recovered the bikes and weapons used to kill Rajdeo, a local district bureau chief of prominent Hindi-language daily, Hindustan.
The major breakthrough comes about a week after Shahabuddin was shifted to Bhagalpur central jail from Siwan jail where he was lodged for over a decade.
He was shifted to Bhagalpur central jail after needle of suspicion moved towards Shahabuddin and the local administration caught him holding “court” in the jail in utter violation of jail manual.
Additional Director General of Police, Bihar, Sunil Kumar, however, denied involvement of Shahabuddin in the case so far.
“There is no particular indication regarding involvement of Shahabuddin in the killing of Ranjan,” the ADG has told the media but added any politician or leader found guilty in the killing would not be spared.
His shifting was preceded by massive raids in the Siwan jail during which dozens of mobile phones, SIM cards, knives and other objectionable materials were recovered from Siwan jail.
Rajdeo was shot dead by the motorcycle-borne criminals on May 13 in Siwan town while he was returning home after work in the evening. He was shot dead by point blank range.
