PATNA: At least 23 people were killed in Bihar after heavy rains accompanied with lightning and storms lashed the state on Sunday, a disaster management department official said.
“23 deaths are confirmed till now,” said a top disaster management department official today.
Of the total deaths, four were reported from Patna, three each from Rohtas, BhojpurBuxur and Vaishali districts, two from Saran and and one each from Araria, Nalanda, Siwan, Aurangabad and Gopalganj districts.
The disaster management department is keeping a close watch on the situation and has asked the officials to pay the compensation to the victim families soon.
This is the second major casualties in the past two months. Earlier in May this year, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and rains had claimed at least 28 lives in the state.
Maximum casualties were reported from West and East Champaran, Jamui, Munger, Bhagalpur and Madhepura.
