PATNA: Music can perilously leave you in trouble if you happened to be in Bihar at this marriage season. That is what happened to two persons who were part of a marriage procession in Sherghatti town in Gaya district of Bihar on Tuesday night.

It all happened after some youths joining the marriage procession asked the female singers to sing “Nathunia pe goli mare saiya hamar (Please fire at my nose ring, my dear) …,” a popular Bhojpuri number which has been a big hit in the rural areas. So far, the singers were entertaining the guests with Bollywood songs only.

However, once the singers began singing the number, a group of enthusiastic youths who had come with the marriage procession suddenly began firing indiscriminately in the air from their guns, leaving two persons grievously wounded.

The victims were immediately rushed to a local hospital from where they were referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital where their condition is stated to be critical. One of the victims included a close relative of a local Mukhiya Savitri Devi.

Celebratory firings at the time of marriage functions are quite common in parts of Bihar and have killed many people in the past few years. This practice is quite prevalent in Bihar’s western region, known as Bhojpuri belt.
