Muslim villagers perform last rites of lonely Hindu woman in Bihar
PATNA: In a typical display of communal brotherhood, a Muslim family in Bihar performed the last rites of a Hindu woman who had none in her family to do this duty.
The lovely scene was witnessed in Maner block of Patna district on Tuesday.
70-year-old Daultiya Devi had been living in the locality for years. She was left alone in her family after her husband died some years back. There was none to take care of her and hence she was totally dependent on her neighbours for survival.
She would eke out her living by working in someone’s homes when she was physically able but of late she was dependent on her neighbours for every work for her old age and utter penury.
On Tuesday, she died in her dilapidated home. Sadly, none from her community appeared a bit concerned even as her body remained lying in her home uncared and unattended.
Eventually, the news reached Chandu Khan who lived in the locality and was also familiar with her.
Soon after getting information, he called up his nephew Jawaid Khan and performed her last rites with typical Hindu customs at the local cremation site along the Ganges on Tuesday.
Chandu Khan said he was ready to also throw the funeral feast if the co-villagers supported him. His lovely gesture has now become a talk of the town.
