PATNA: A man in Bihar called up a number of professionals and demanded extortion wishing to become a rich man overnight but his greed ended up in jail.
The incident took place in West Champaran district of Bihar.
Jitendra Kumar who was working as a compounder called up some six professionals from various fields from his cell mobile at quick intervals, seeking extortion.
First he called up a police inspector Subsequently, he made calls to a doctor, lawyer, pharmarcist and others from his phone hiding in the house of his sister in the weekend.
Reports said the caller threatened all of them with dire consequences if they failed to oblige him soon. The victims were told to pay extortion ranging from Rs500,000 to Rs 800,000.
Soon, authorities formed a high-level police team to investigate the case and nab the criminal. Eventually, the police nabbed the criminal in the weekend and it was then that the entire story came to light.
“The man who wanted to become rich overnight only recently joined the crime world and made frantic extortion calls to various persons from his cell phone. We nabbed him on the basis of mobile tracking software,” the local sub-divisional police officer Sanjay Jha told the Gulf News on Monday.
