PATNA: A villager in Bihar had to pass 24 hours in police lock-up as the cops didn’t understand the meaning of a court order issued in English and mistook the “warrant” for enforcing maintenance payment as “warrant of arrest”.
The bizarre incident took place at Makhdumpur in central Bihar’s Jehanabad district. The whole matter is related to divorce case pending in the court.
As per the report, a family court in Patna issued a notice to the local Jehanabad police, asking the latter gather details about the property of Neeraj Kumar against whom his wife filed a divorce petition in the court and implement the instructions mentioned therein.
The local police mistook this notice as “warrant” of arrest, arrested the youth and then put him in police lock-up, refusing to listen nothing from him.
The very next day when the youth was produced in the court in handcuff, the court reprimanded the cops for arresting him for no fault and ordered him to drop him to his home with all respect.
The court had earlier asked the man to pay his estranged wife a monthly maintenance amount of Rs2500 to his wife and cops were required to just enforce this order but the police didn’t under the order written in English and arrested the man.
