PATNA: The police probing the kidnapping of a Gopalganj businessman’s school-going daughter have unraveled the mystery behind her abduction. The kidnappers had sought a ransom of Rs 1 crore (10 million) in lieu of her release.
The class four schoolgirl studying in local DAV school was kidnapped in broad daylight by some car-borne criminals on Tuesday afternoon while returning from school. She was recovered the same day following intensive raids by the police.

The police who investigated the case found victim’s own 21-year-old cousin Divyank was involved in her kidnapping as he wanted to make a fast buck and lead a luxurious life.

“Divyank wanted to lead a luxurious life and construct a big shopping mall. He found kidnapping to be the easiest way to realise his dreams,” Gopalganj district superintendent of police Ravi Ranjan Kumar was quoted as telling the Hindustan Times today.
The police reached out to the main accused with the help of CCTV cameras installed recently in the Gopalgnaj town.
After clinching some vital information from the cameras, the police first nabbed the kidnappers. Their subsequent quizzing then helped the police nab the main accused who ironically turned out to be her own cousin.
Strangely, the main accused was among the family members who accompanied the victim’s father to the local police station to register a case of kidnapping.
