PATNA: RJD president Lalu Prasad has planned to nominate Heena Shahab to the august Bihar Legislative Council. The nomination process of the Council elections began today.

She is wife of jailed don Mohammad Shahabuddin, now convicted in two murder cases and right now under suspicion for murder of Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan

The move is aimed at placating Shahabudidn who is said to be angry with the party leadership the way state government has gone after him in journalist murder case and has also shifted him to Bhagalpur central jail from his home town Siwan. His facilities in jail also stand sharply curtailed now.

Reports in the local media suggest the RJD has almost put its seal of assent over his wife’s candidature. The party has already given Shhabuddin a berth in its national executive committee, amply indicating the weakness of Prasad for the jailed don now being investigated for his alleged role in the murder of journalist.

However, the JD-U which is a coalition partner in the Nitish Kumar government is not amused over the “decision” of the RJD.

The reason for its JD-U’s annoyance is genuine. Shahabudidn has come under scanner for his alleged role in the journalist murder case and by nominating his wife to the Upper House of the state Legislature, the RJD seems like indirectly supporting the jailed don and his “all unlawful activities” in a severe embarrassment to the Bihar chief minister.

The Nitish Kumar government has already recommended a CBI probe into the murder case to let the country’s premier investigating agency do the investigation with all fairness.
