Kangaroo courts make a mockery of Nitish Kumar’s ‘rule of law’ claim in Bihar
PATNA: “Kangaroo courts” delivering instant justice have set alarm bells ringing for NDA government in Bihar headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
The “instant justice” by these courts has put a big question mark over the “rule of law” claim of the government.
In the past one fortnight, as many as three villagers have been ordered to lick their own spit by these courts for small faults.
The latest incident has been reported from Muzaffarpur where woman panchat samiti member was made to lick her own.
Reports said victim Dulari Devi had rent dispute with her tenant after which a panchat was held at the village on Sunday. “At the village court, I was forced to spit and lick my own saliva by the judges,” she alleged in her complaint to the police.
Last month, October 23, another woman was forced to lick her spit by an influential villager after she reached with the complaint that she had been raped by his son. The accused also assaulted the victim, she alleged.
The same month again, on October 20, an elderly was beaten up with slippers and made to lick his spit in Nalanda district just after he entered into the house of Mukhiya in his absence.
The victim Mahesh Thakur who runs a barber shop had gone to the house of the Mukhiya to seek khaini but the villagers suspected his intention and punished him at a hurriedly called village panchayat, according to media reports.
