Jharkhand contest turns interesting as Nitish extends open support to Rai against Raghubar
PATNA: The JD-U led by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has extended an open support to rebel BJP minister Saryu Rai in Jharkhand.
Rai who held the food and civil supply ministery in the BJP government is contesting against Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das from Jamshedpur east seat in Jharkhand.
On Monday, the JD-U candidate had reached the Jamshedpur collectorate to file nominations but was told by the party not to file papers. He returned soon without filing papers.
JD-U’s co-in-charge for Jharkhand Arun Singh told the media that the party has withdrawn its candidate from the Jamshedpur east seat after coming to know that Rai has filed nomination from this seat.
“If Rai makes a request to campaign for him, the party will surely look into his request,” Singh told the media on Tuesday.
Rai has gone on record saying he was denied the BJP ticket probably because of his close relationship with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar who released his book in 2017.
Strangely, both the partners are in power in Bihar but the prevailing developments in Jharkhand are set to have their bearing in Bihar too.
