PATNA: A ruling Janata Dal United (JD-U) lawmaker from Bihar has come under fire after a video of the leader showing him not saluting the national flag during the Independence Day celebration went viral in the social media.
While everyone present during the flag hoisting ceremony on the Independence Day celebrated on Wednesday were seen saluting the national flag, JD-U’s Sheohar lawmaker Sarfuddin was caught on camera putting his right hand down and left hand on his cheek.
“This is a very serious matter. The chief minister should take cognizance of it and initiate action against his legislator for insulting the national flag,” Congress spokesperson Prem Chandra Mishra told the media on Friday.
The JD-U is led by chief minister Nitish Kumar who also heads the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar.
The legislator, offered, a bizarre explanation for this act. “I had put my hand on the cheek after a insect began biting me but someone took the photograph right at this time and made it viral,” Sarfuddin explained.
