PATNA: A JD-U candidate in Bihar has refused to contest elections, prompting the party to give ticket to a BJP leader.

Last fortnight, the JD-U had given ticket to Dr Varun Kumar for Sitamarhi seat but he later expressed his unwillingness to join the poll fray.

“He informed the party that since neither the leaders of the JD-U nor its ally BJP were giving him any importance or supporting him in his campaign, he wanted to return the party symbol before the filing of the nominations,” media reports quoting Dr Kumar said on Wednesday.

A visibly embarrassed party leadership later began quietly searching for a candidate for this seat but failed to get.

Eventually, the BJP ended the major headache of the JU-U by providing him the candidate for the seat, media reports said.

On Wednesday, local BJP leader Sunil Kumar Pintu was inducted into the JD-U after which he was given the party ticket.

It may noted that both the BJP and JD-U are contesting on 17 LS seats each in Bihar and the Sitamarhi seat has gone to the JD-U share.
