17 Indian Army soldiers killed in Kashmir terrorist attack, all four militants also gunned down


Uri (J&K): In one of the deadliest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent years, at least 17 Indian Army soldiers lost their lives while all four terrorists, who attacked an army Brigade camp in Kashmir’s Uri on Sunday morning, were eliminated in a fierce encounter with the security forces.

According to Economic Times, 17 soldiers were also martyred while bravely fighting the terrorists. The terrorist attack took place early Sunday morning.

Reports quoting an army spokesperson said four militants were killed in encounter with Indian security forces.

“All terrorists gunned down by Army, who attacked Rear Base of one of the unit deployed at Uri (J&K). Search operation on,” ANI reported today.

An Army spokesperson in Srinagar confirmed that all four militants have been killed in the Uri encounter.

He said search operation is on inside the camp and “we are collecting all the details about army fatalities and injuries.”

“We pressed commandos to kill all the militants and got success,” he added.

The attack is believed to have been mounted by the terror group Lashkar e-Taiba and backed by Pakistan’s spy agency ISI.

The injured jawans have been airlifted to an Army hospital in Srinagar, reports said.

Heavily-armed militants had attacked the Army brigade headquarters in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir near the Line of Control early Sunday morning, leading to fierce encounter between the terrorists and the security personnel.

Keeping in view the prevailing situation, Union home minister Rajnath Singh has postponed his visit to Russia and the US in view of the terrorist attack.

“Keeping the situation of Jammu and Kashmir in mind and in the wake of terror attack in Uri, I have postponed my visits to Russia and the USA,” Home minister Singh tweeted.

He added he had given instructions to the Home Secretary and other senior officers in MHA to closely monitor the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The home minister also talked to Governor & CM of Jammu & Kashmir regarding the terror attack in Uri.

“They have apprised me of the security situation in the state,” Singh tweeted.

As per media reports, the Home minister has also called a high-level meeting to discuss over the prevailing crisis. EB chief, RAW and NSG officials are expected to attend the meeting, reports said.

The attack took place at around 5:30 am this morning inside army’s Uri brigade.
