PATNA: Amid the top JD-U leadership pressing for resignation of deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav for a corruption case, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is facing uncomfortable queries from his own colleagues.

“Didn’t you know Lalu Prasad is charge-sheeted when you entered into an alliance?” senior JD-U leader and energy minister Bijendra Yadav shot back after a section of party leaders sought for resignation of Tejashwi and even suggested for breaking alliance with the grand alliance over the issue of corruption.

“Mahagathbandhan todanae ya sarkar girane ki baat karane se kuchha nahi hoga. JD-U ko aapni takat ko dekhana hoga (Talking about breaking the grand alliance or bringing down the government will not help. The JD-U must know its strength),” Yadav was quoted as bluntly saying at the meeting.

He also questioned the move of raking up the issue of corruption asking, “Kya jab RJD se samjhauta ho raha tha tab hame yah nahin pata tha ki Lalu Prasad charge-sheeted hain (Didn’t we know then that Lalu Prasad is charge-sheeted when we entered into an alliance)?”

He also objected to the party demand for seeking Tejashwi’s resignation, as per media report. “When the ministers like Uma Bharti continue in Narendra Modi government despite serious charges against them then why this hell?” he reportedly asked.

Many experts too have questioned the “double-standard” of the chief minister and termed his talks of political decency as simply “hypocrisy”.

According to them, a criminal-politician Ajay Singh was recently told to marry to get an election ticket as the “boss” was quite conscious about his image and didn’t want to earn criticisms by giving ticket to a criminal. Eventually, he had to marry during “Pitripaksha” which is considered the most inauspicious time for the Hindus.

Not only that, during the course of his many yatras that he undertook in the past too, he stayed at the residence of tainted leaders like Dhumal Singh Dhumal, facing serious charges like murder and kidnapping also dined with them, according to political analysts.

The JD-U boss was also accused of walking in the company of tainted leaders like Anant Singh and Sunil Pandey, now both behind the bars in criminal cases.

“Such examples are aplenty which amply exposes JD-U’s hypocrisy,” said a RJD leader wishing not to be quoted.
