How Bihar leaders changed daily routine to keep them fit for grueling poll campaign

Politicians like Nitish Kumar, Ram Vilas Paswan, Sushil Modi and Tejashwi Yadav are involved in poll campiagn


PATNA: Top politicians in Bihar have changed their daily routine and diet habits to keep them fit for poll campaigning in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

Each leader has addressed more than 100 poll rallies so far in this elections season which began last month.

Frontline Bihar politicians like Nitish Kumar (JD-U), Bihar chief minister, Ram Vilas Paswan (LJP), Union minister, Sushil Kumar Modi (BJP), deputy chief minister and Tejashwi yadav (RJD), Bihar opposition leader have made significant changes in their daily routine so that they could keep themselves fit for poll campaigning.

Such is their perseverance that they have refrained from using chilled water even in this scorching sun when mercury has touched 44 degree Celsius and are taking home-cooked food.

They have been addressing on an average of seven to eight rallies every day, braving hot winds in the open.

Their grueling campaign schedules give them barely six-to-seven to take rest at home yet they get ready quite early in the morning to go on their poll campaign. A report on their daily routine:


05 AM: Soon after getting up, take a morning stroll, scans newspapers and gets feed-backs from leaders over phone.

09:30 to 10AM: Takes little breakfast to feel energetic, especially bread, green vegetables and fruits. He is primarily a vegetarian but loves fish.

10:30 AM: Reaches Patna airport to leave for election tour. In between election rallies, finds times to take lunch and drink normal water.

06 PM: Takes little snacks after reaching home from election campaign and indulges in poll discussion with leaders and colleagues.

09:30: Takes dinner and then goes to bed at around 10:30 to 11 PM to get ready for another day.


07-7:30 AM: Focuses on his physical fitness with yoga and other exercises.

09:30-10 AM: Meets visitors at his residence.

10:30-11 AM: Reaches Patna airport to take chopper for poll campaign. On average addresses five-six election rallies in a day.

08 PM: Returns home from poll campaign and indulges in discussion with colleagues over snacks.

09-9:30 PM: Takes dinner and then goes to bed at around 10:30 PM.


6:30-08 AM:  Follows yoga after getting up in the morning and takes bath.

08 AM: Takes breakfast, normally prefers sprouted gram, mung and fruits.

09:30 AM: Reaches Patna airport to go on his election campaign. Has been addressing an average three election rallies and two road shows each day. In between, he finds time to take lunch on his chopper.

06:30-08:30 PM: Take snacks, preferably fried makahna with green tea and gets feedback about political activities.

09-9:30 PM: Takes dinner, he is completely vegetarian and then go to bed by 10:30 PM.

06:30-07:30 AM: Scans newspapers while sipping tea and meets visitors after getting up in the morning.

08 AM: Takes light breakfast, especially fruit salad with coconut water.

10:30 AM: Reaches Patna airport to ride chopper for poll campaign. Has been addressing seven to eight rallies every day in the absence of his father Lalu Prasad who is in jail. Take lunches when finding time in between rallies. Eats sandwich, curd water, sattu with normal water.

06-06:30: Returns home from poll campaign and meets visitors over snacks.

07:30 PM: Takes dinner, he is mainly non-vegetarian and likes to eat chicken, mutton, fish with and bread and rice with milk. He goes to bed around midnight.
