PATNA: Nobody knows what Ashwini Kumar Choube, a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Bihar, will do next. He is as unpredictable as the fast-changing weather.
Yesterday when the local villagers from his home parliamentary constituency of Buxur in western Bihar wanted to put their grievances before him, Choube picked up spade and hurriedly began clearing a clogged drain! He ended up winning the hearts of the residents.

The ace parliamentarian had gone to Kori village under his constituency under part of his programme “MP at your door” when he came across the chocked drain and at once decided to clear it, without waiting for the response from the local municipal corporation staffs.
Reports said seeing the clogged drain, the MP asked for a spade from the local villagers and at once got into the job—rolling his dhoti up his knees and removing the dirt blocking the drain water with a spade in hands. After about half-an-hour of hard work which ultimately prompted the local residents to join his mission as well, the parliamentarian was finally able to clear the drain.
Choube, a firebrand BJP leader, is known to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was Modi who managed ticket for him by personally appealing the main ticket aspirant Lal Muni Chaubey exit from the contest and allow his colleague to try luck from this western Bihar LS seat. Eventually he came out with flying colours.
The MP, thus, remains highly impressed by Modi’s ideas and has been trying to follow his “Clean India Mission” which the Prime Minister launched on October 2, 2014. Quite many politicians from the BJP have tried to carry forward this “Clean India” programme in their own style but Choube left just everyone behind by literally clearing a clogged drain.
The politician, however, is also known for his theatrics. Recently during the assembly elections, he began crying bitterly on the dais in the presence of party leaders when some of them challenged the candidature of his son who ultimately lost. A couple of years back, the politician had come to the Bihar state assembly in a convoy of bullock carts laden with sugarcanes to protest non-payment of dues to the sugarcane farmers by the state
