Former RJD lawmaker awarded life sentence in 28 year-old murder case


PATNA: A local court in Bihar today handed out life imprisonment to a former RJD legislator Ranbir Yadav in a 28 year-old case of murder.

The court of additional district and sessions judge, Munger, Phool Chandra Chaudhary also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict while delivering the judgement.

Yadav said he had faith in the court and would move the higher court in appeal.

The court had convicted Yadav on December 24 and had fixed January 3 to announce the quantum of punishment.

Yadav who is infamous as the ‘Don of Khagaria’ is husband of local JD-U legislator Poonam Yadav.

The Khagaria muscleman is accused of shooting dead his cousin Sunil Kumar Yadav in December 1988 reportedly after his goat strayed into the house of the accused.

Yadav has already been sentenced to life imprisonment in Taufir diyara massacre involving killing of nine persons in mid-1980’s.
