Flood politics: Nitish’s party threatens to ban entry of Union ministers to Bihar

PATNA: The ruling Janata Dal United (JD-U) today threatened to ban entry of Union ministers to Bihar if flood relief package for the state was not announced soon.

There are a total of seven ministers from Bihar, holding keys portfolios in the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the centre.

“The Union ministers are regularly visiting Bihar, talking big and also eating the foods meant for the flood victims but have been silent over relief package for the flood victims. We will not allow  their entry to the state if relief package was not announced soon by the centre,” warned JD-U’s chief spokesperson Sanjay Singh.

The BJP reacted by stating that Bihar is not the ‘fiefdom’ of the chief minister Kumar.

“Has Nitish Kumar registered the entire land of Bihar in his name? Nitish has been a Union minister and must know the process of announcing a relief package,” asked BJP leader Sabir Ali.

According to a preliminary estimate of the state government the floods have caused a huge damage to property and crops worth over Rs 170 billion.

As per report, floods have caused massive devastation in Bihar, affecting a total population of five million, damaging thousands of homes and destroying standing crops.

It has also claimed a total of 61 lives in the past over a week.
