PATNA: The boiler of a community kitchen exploded in Bihar on Saturday morning, killing five labourers and wounding a few others, officials said today.
The incident took place in Sugauli block of East Champaran district early today.
The community kitchen was being run by a Delhi-based NGO and the cooked food was to be served to the children of local government schools running in the areas.
Police said the victims were cooking the midday meal for schoolchildren when the boiler got blasted. The blast was so powerful that the bodies of the victims were blown to smithereens.
“The bodies were being collected and sent to the local hospital for postmortem,” a local police official Upendra Kumar Sharma told The Times of India on Saturday.
Police say the number of the victims may increase.
