PATNA: A man from the eastern Indian state of Bihar handed over his newly-wed wife to a local money lender after he failed to repay the loan amount, the local media reported today.
As per the report, the youth, said to be a resident of Norajpur village under Sare police station in Nalanda district, had taken a loan of Rs 400,000 from a local money lender to set up a studio.

Right when this work was in progress, he fell in love with a girl and married her.
In the meantime, he failed to pay up the loan due to his poor financial condition as the loan interest amount continued accumulating too much. Now, this became just impossible for him to liquidate the loan amount even as the money lender began exerting pressures on him to clear the dues.
Left with no option, the youth came up with a proposal to hand over his wife to the money lender in lieu of the loan amount which the latter happily agreed, reports said.
Eventually, the man got his wife married with the money lender and saw her off, according to a report published in a local vernacular daily Hindustan. The report, however, does not mention when the marriage took place.
On being contacted over phone, the local police official in Nalanda said he was busy in election works and would be able to say anything only after a proper inquiry.
Nalanda is the home district of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
