Election Commission has ‘anti-Dalit’ mindset, BSP chief Mayawati alleges

PATNA: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Miss Mayawati on Thursday hit out at the Election Commission, charging the latter with nursing “anti-Dalit” mindset.
Mayawati whose party is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh in alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) of Akhilesh Singh Yadav expressed her anguish after being barred from poll campaigning in her home state for violating the model code.
“The Election Commission, which has anti-Dalit mindset stopped me from campaigning in the capital of dalits, Agra. Victory of BSP candidates in order to form its government at the centre will be the appropriate reply to the Commission,” news agency PTI quoted her as saying at an election rally in Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Thursday.
She wondered as to why the EC is keeping mum while the BJP leaders have been regularly violating model code by dragging Army in their poll speeches.
At the same time, she dubbed Congress’ proposed minimum income guarantee scheme (NYAY) a “joomla.
