PATNA: A doctor in Bihar was arrested on the charges of drinking and violating the liquor ban in the state.
The arrested doctor Shatrughan Prasad was coming to Ara town on his car late Saturday evening when he was detained by the police on the basis of suspicion.
During the examination at a local government hospital, the police found 178 ml of alcohol in his body after which he was booked under the new excise act.
Consumption, manufacturing and supply of liquor has been strictly banned in Bihar after the state government imposed total prohibition in the state last month.
Under the new law, drinking even in private has been declared a serious offence.
This is the first arrest of doctor in Bihar on drinking charges. The arrested doctor was posted at a primary health centre in Buxur district.
Last month, seven high profile businessmen form Gujarat were arrested and sent to jail in Patna after they were caught consuming liquor in a posh hotel in the state capital.
The arrested businessmen had come to attend a marriage and were partying in a hotel when the police raided the scene and caught them red-handed.
