Dengue claims life of another doctor, senior official in Patna as toll mounts to three

PATNA: Dengue has claimed the lives of two more officials in Bihar, including a doctor, bringing the toll to three in the past two days.

The new victim of the vector-borne disease is Dr Vashudeo Prasad, a senior physician from Chapra, who died at a private hospital on Sunday.

Reports quoting local media said the Dr Prasad who was posted with the primary health centre, Massoomganj, had been admitted to the hospital on Friday.

His condition deteriorated fast after he suffered brain haemorrhage. Eventually he died.

Yet another official Sangeeta Kumari died of dengue in another hospital located in Patna.

The victim who stayed with her family members in Hanumannagr locality of the state capital was posted as district programme officer (DPO) with Integrated Child Development Services, Gopalganj. She had been  suffering from the disease for the past about a week.

Barely a day back, another doctor had died of dengue in Patna. Dr Vijay Kumar, an anesthesiologist with Ford Hospital, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after being detected with dengue fever.

On Thursday, his platelet counts came down to 50,000 which further came down to as a low as 6,000 on Friday as he suffered hemorrhagic shock and collapsed soon, doctors treating him told the media today.

Eventually, his condition turned so alarming that he couldn’t be saved even after transfusion of additional platelets. He died on Friday.

“He was admitted to the hospital three days back after being detected with dengue but we couldn’t save him despite all our best efforts. We have lost a young and energetic doctor,” hospital director Dr BB Bharti told the local media today.

The victim had joined the hospital barely a year back and got married his engineer wife only last year.

Dengue cases have assumed alarming proportion in the state capital this year. At presently, a total of 264 patients admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) have been detected with dengue fever.

Dengue cases have also been reported from Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Buxur and Nalanda districts.

In July this year, health department had issued advisory to prevent dengue outbreaks and also claimed to have deployed workers for fogging and disinfecting water tanks and wells yet the dengue cases have swelled alarmingly.
