PATNA: Speakers at a seminar held here today unanimously sought for declaring Bihar a “litchi land”.
They made this demand at a national seminar organized in Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour (Bhagalpur) over litchi.
The key issues concerning the seminar were how to earn maximum profit from litchi cultivation and how to make its branding as a typical “Bihari fruit” across the country.
Addressing the seminar, Horticultural Society of India (HSI) president KL Chadha opined that Bihar known for this luscious fruit should be declared as “Litchi Land”.
“Litchi cultivation should be promoted across the state as it holds huge potentiality,” Chadha said.

He also demanded for proper branding of the fruit and expanding its areas of cultivation.
Right now, litchis are grown mainly in north Bihar and certain pockets of east Bihar.
A number of agricultural scientists from China, Mauritius and other countries are participating in the four-day seminar which began today.
Last week, authorities from the state sent packets of litchis to Indian President, Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
