New Delhi: Hailing the Supreme Court verdict against the practice of triple talaq, BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday called it the “dawn of a new era for Muslim women,” while leaders from the opposition Congress also had the words of kudos for the historic judgement.
“Supreme Court verdict on triple talaq heralds a new era of self-respect and equality for Muslim women,” Shah said in a statement.
“It’s a big win for gender justice and beginning of a new era. Muslim women have been given respect,” he said.

Congress leader Manish Tewari tweeted: “Welcome 3.2 verdict of SC striking down #TripleTalaq. It is a constructive,progressive decision that must be welcomed by all right thinkers.”
Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said: “What we hoped to happen has now happened, it is a good decision. Yeh faisla sachchai, vastvikta aur sahi Islam ko ujaagar karta hai (This verdict highlights true Islam).”
