RISING INCIDENTS OF MOB ATTACKS HAVE ALARMED THE STATE ADMINISTRATION
PATNA: Angry mob lynched a Dalit youth in Bihar on Saturday on the suspicion of being child-lifter in yet another incident of mob attacks.
Reports quoting villagers and police said a 40 year-old youth was found loitering at Mahammadpur village under Naubatpur block in Patna district on Saturday.
Seeing the youth, someone spread the rumour that he is child-lifter. Within no time, a mob of local villagers caught hold of the youth, tied his hands behind the back and mercilessly attacked him with heavy logs and bamboo sticks, killing him on the spot.
Acting swiftly, the police have arrested 22 persons in this connection while efforts are on to identify other accused persons on the basis of video.
Yesterday as well, three women were attacked by an angry mob in the Patna city locality of the capital city of Bihar on the same suspicion.
The women were going to the markets when the villagers suspected them to be child-lifters and assaulted them badly. As luck would have it, the local police rushed to the spot on time and rescued the women.
The police have registered a case and are trying to identify the attackers.
The incidents of mob lynching have become a matter of serious concern in Bihar and despite repeated appeals by the police, the mob is taking law into their hands. In the past 20 days alone, around 15 incidents of mob attacks/lynching have been reported, according to media reports.
