PATNA: Armed criminals raided the office of a private finance company and looted 55 kg of gold worth over Rs21 crore (Rs210 million) in Bihar today. This is said to be the biggest gold heist in the state.
Police said some six motorcycle-borne criminals entered the office of the Muthoot Finance on Saturday afternoon, held hostage the staffs and decamped with 55 kg of gold packed in several bags.
According to a senior police official, the gang involved in the loot has been identified and raids were on to nab them.
Criminals have been frequently targeting the offices of the Muthoot finance in Bihar and looting gold or cash at frequent intervals.
Earlier in February this year, the criminals had looted 32 kg of gold from the office of the Muthoot finance in Muzaffarpur district.
Later the police identified the gang involved in robbery and recovered 26.5 kg of gold from neighbouring Vaishali district. One of the criminals involved in the robbery was identified as the son of a professor.
Earlier the miscreants had also targeted the company office in Patna.
