PATNA: Four policemen in Bihar have been dismissed from service for drinking alcohol and creating nuisance in utter violation of the liquor ban imposed in the state. Bihar imposed total prohibition in April last year.
All the punished cops were posted at a police station in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district.
The dismissed cops are learnt to have misbehaved with the senior superintendent of police under the influence of liquor asking “Who are you”.
In July this year, all were caught drinking liquor at a public place after which they were suspended and departmental proceedings initiated against them.
On Friday, they all were finally dismissed from service after an inquiry conducted into the matter confirmed their guilt.
The police department has recommended dismissal of yet another cop from service after he was caught creating nuisance under the influence of liquor at a public place and then also assaulted a complainant right in the police station.
“The police are supposed to be on duty round-the-clock, and under this condition they were prohibited from drinking even before the liquor ban was enforced in the state. We will not tolerate anyone breaking the law with impunity,” Bhagalpur’s senior superintendent of police Manoj Kumar told the media on Saturday.
