Rupnai who is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Sah took oath along with 23 Cabinet ministers.
According to NDTV, at least nine ministers from the Anandiben Patel cabinet were dropped from Rupnai ministry.
Of the nine new faces, eight are from the Patidar community—a loyal support base that’s now angry with the BJP government for its handling of its demand for reservation in jobs and education, reported NDTV.
Just before being sworn-in, the new chief minister took blessings from spiritual leaders as well as party rival Keshubhai Patel.
Prime Minister Modi Congratulated Rupani on being sworn in as the new chief minister of Gujarat.
Congrats to @vijayrupanibjp, Nitinbhai Patel & others sworn-in as they begin their innings to continue the development journey of Gujarat.
